Chapter 13 The Distance Between Two Hearts 3
Seeing her look, He Weining's delicate face was filled with indescribable fatigue. He sighed, "Xiao Di, I know it was my fault for breaking the appointment last time, but can we not dwell on this issue now?"
"I'm asking you if it's true?" She bit her lip, afraid that tears would fall accidentally.
He Weining's eyes were cold, with a hint of anger: "I don't want to talk about this topic anymore."
These words were like a sharp knife in the ice and snow, stabbing into Liang Xiaodi's chest without mercy, bringing her not only pain, but also bone-chilling cold.
"Okay, I understand." Liang Xiaodi smiled.
Pushing open the car door, she strode out, ran quickly, and disappeared into the night.
Liang Xiaodi took three days off.
During these three days, she stayed at home and turned off her cell phone, not wanting to hear any news about He Weining. She wanted to have a good rest, but as soon as she closed her eyes, she recalled He Weining's cold eyes and strange tone. Maybe Lu Zheng was right, feelings were just an accessory to He Weining's life.
Liang Xiaodi logged into the game, wanting to talk to Song Yan, but tragically, Song Yan was not there, but Xing Qiege's name was on. This continued for several days. He was online, and she was online too. But as if they had made an appointment, no one talked to each other.
Liang Xiaodi came to the high city wall alone, looking at the endless stream of people on the street and the people coming and going, and the past memories played one by one in her mind like a movie. The person who was with her a few days ago, now left her alone.
We are so close, why can't I feel your heart?
After the three-day holiday, she returned to work as scheduled.
As she expected, He Weining was still the same He Weining, full of vigor and charisma. In contrast, Liang Xiaodi looked like she had just experienced a serious illness, and she was sick. There were piles of documents on the table, and she didn't care about anything else. As soon as she sat down, she immersed herself in work.
During lunch break, Song Yan finally called her back. He said he was busy recently and had no time to go online. He asked about the matter between her and He Weining. Liang Xiaodi gave him a brief summary of the matter.
Finally, Song Yan sighed and said, "Men and women think differently. You are both wrong in this matter, but neither of you is wrong either."
"What do you mean?" She was a little confused by Song Yan's theory.
"You are angry with him because you care about him too much, that's right, but you are wrong to keep arguing with him. He Weining cares about both sides, so he is silent, he is not wrong, you can say that this is his instinctive reaction, but he is wrong to ignore the importance of this matter, this is the real reason for the conflict between you two."
"I just can't stand it. He could be so calm when he knew Lu Zheng liked me. If he had said no at the time, I wouldn't be so angry."
"I understand how you feel. This is indeed a headache. How are you two getting along now?"
"Nothing to say." Liang Xiaodi rubbed his temple, "I never thought that things would turn out like this between us."
"Things have come to this, you can't give in anymore." Song Yan said seriously.
Liang Xiaodi was confused.
"Well, actually, I've been worried about you since he broke his promise last time. During your relationship, it seemed that he was the active one, but in fact he was the passive one. You two quarreled, and you were so sad, but he was so calm, which shows that he has you in his arms." As he said that, he snorted, "He is waiting for you to compromise. If you don't believe me, just wait. Once you compromise, this matter will be ignored by him, and if Lu Zheng asks for more in the future, I'm afraid he will agree. You just stay in this stalemate and wait for him to compromise first!" After hearing Song Yan's analysis, Liang Xiaodi frowned. At this moment, He Weining walked towards her with a tray.
"I won't talk to you anymore, he's coming!" Liang Xiaodi hung up the phone abruptly.
"Is this what you're having for lunch?" He Weining knocked on her plate, which contained only watery soup.
"Healthy." Liang Xiaodi took a big bite of broccoli without even raising her head.
A chicken leg fell into her plate. He Weining smiled and said, "Are you still not angry enough?"
The smell of his body rushed into her nose. Liang Xiaodi suppressed her blushing and heartbeat and looked at him calmly. He Weining's eyes were as clear as autumn water, and she waited quietly for her to speak. After a few seconds of stalemate, Liang Xiaodi lowered her head again and started eating.
He Weining's eyes darkened, and he didn't say anything, just lowered his head to eat.
The meal was irritating and heartbreaking. In the afternoon, Liang Xiaodi began to have stomachache. She took several kinds of medicine but none of them worked. Her complexion was very bad. He Weining saw it and came in, picked her up and walked out.
"What are you doing?" Liang Xiaodi began to resist, feeling a little hurt by his pulling.
"Have you eaten well these days?" He Weining asked sternly.
Liang Xiaodi didn't dare to look at him and said hesitantly, "I don't have much appetite..."
"Come on, I'll take you to see a doctor." He Weining dragged her out the door without thinking. The concerned expression on He Weining's face was reflected in Liang Xiaodi's eyes, and her stubborn body relaxed. She raised her foot and wanted to follow him, but his phone suddenly rang. Because they were very close, Liang Xiaodi immediately saw that the person calling was Lu Zheng.
"What's wrong?" He Weining answered the phone.
"Hello, I'm Mr. Lu's nurse. Can you spare some time to come and see him? He has been refusing to take medicine or get injections recently. No matter how we persuade him, it's useless. If he continues like this, his body will collapse." The nurse's voice sounded helpless, and Liang Xiaodi could hear it clearly from the side.
He Weining took a deep breath and said in a deep voice: "Okay, I understand, I'll be there soon."
After hanging up the phone, He Weining looked at the floor absentmindedly. Liang Xiaodi looked at him in silence and asked worriedly, "Why doesn't he cooperate with the treatment?"
"Because of you." He Weining turned his head, "If I don't let him see you, he will continue like this."
Liang Xiaodi was stunned. She looked up and met He Weining's gaze. She suddenly felt that Song Yan was right.
A nameless anger surged in her heart, Liang Xiaodi's lips turned pale, and she asked in a trembling voice: "If he threatens to die, will you give me to him?"
He Weining was silent.
At this time, the distance between the two people was less than one meter, but it seemed as if there was a river across the distance, with the water flowing fast and turbulent, and if one couldn't get through, the other couldn't.
An hour later, the two arrived at the hospital.
The city is entering autumn, and the leaves are falling. Lu Zheng's face is very bad. He is half lying on the bed, watching a movie with his IPAD, with a dull expression, as if he is not interested in anything. It was not until Liang Xiaodi came in that he became more energetic.
"Hi, Xiaodi, long time no see." There was obvious joy on his face, and he moved a stool for her to sit down.
Ever since she heard Lu Zheng say that he liked her last time, Liang Xiaodi could no longer face him naturally. She smiled, trying to hide the emotions in her eyes, and said, "Your brother said that you were not feeling well, so he asked me to come and see you."
Lu Zheng raised his eyes and glanced at He Weining, whose eyes were cold, and raised a smile: "If you come to see me more often in the future, my health will be much better."
Although these words were spoken casually, Liang Xiaodi felt a layer of frost in her heart.
After chatting with Lu Zheng for a while and seeing that he took the medicine and got the injection obediently, He Weining felt relieved.
When leaving the hospital, Liang Xiaodi and He Weining walked side by side. It was drizzling, and He Weining wanted to hold her hand, but she subconsciously avoided him.
"I want to go home." Liang Xiaodi said expressionlessly.
"I send you."
"No, I can do it myself." Without waiting for He Weining to respond, she strode forward. Watching her stubborn figure gradually going away, He Weining was stunned. In a trance, it seemed as if something slipped away from his palm, but he couldn't catch it.
On Monday morning, Liang Xiaodi took her prepared resignation letter to find Qin Jie from the HR department, but ran into He Weining. He was wearing a well-tailored suit and holding a coffee cup. The sun shone in through the French windows, and He Weining's tall figure always carried a charm that was high above but made people willing to bow down to him.
He walked closer, turned his gaze, and saw the letter in Liang Xiaodi's hand.
"You want to resign?"
Liang Xiaodi didn't say anything.
He Weining snatched the letter from her hand, his calm eyes turned cold, and he pulled Liang Xiaodi straight into the office.
"Why do you have to do this?" He put down the coffee cup and said arrogantly.
"We have different auras." Liang Xiaodi met his gaze, and the anger in her eyes could no longer be concealed.
He Weining laughed in anger. Liang Xiaodi had never thought that such a proud man like him would show such an expression, anxious, helpless, and at a loss. Seeing him like this, she felt bad. But being by his side, watching the two of them drifting away, was even more unbearable.
"I don't agree." He Weining said coldly.
Liang Xiaodi looked up at him, tears falling down her face in big drops. As the dull pain in her heart became more and more obvious, she finally burst into tears.
"But I've had enough, I'm really fed up, you don't care about me at all!"
"I say, how could you be so stupid? You deserve the gossip from your colleagues. Now everyone must think that He Weining dumped you!" Song Yan dutifully mocked on the other end of the phone, while Liang Xiaodi chewed her apple indifferently.
"I've already cried, what's there to regret? Let them talk nonsense, I'm used to it anyway."
"Did he coax you afterwards?"
"He came over to hug me, but I pushed him away."
Song Yan was helpless: "So what are you going to do now?"
"I'll take it one step at a time. Anyway, I haven't found a more suitable job yet."
"I'm talking about He Weining!" Song Yan was speechless.
"Oh, take two steps at a time." She was telling the truth.
"I'm really impressed by you."
After hanging up the phone, Liang Xiaodi walked slowly towards the office with the brewed coffee.
At this moment, a strange voice sounded: "Who is Liang Xiaodi?"
Liang Xiaodi turned around and saw a courier boy holding a large bouquet of flowers standing in the office , looking around. This shout attracted the attention of the entire office to her.
"It's me." Liang Xiaodi walked over.
The delivery guy's eyes lit up: "Here are your flowers, please sign for them."
She took the flowers and found a card inside with Lu Zheng's name on it.
A feeling of weakness spread all over his body and Liang Xiaodi had a splitting headache.
Since she last visited the hospital, Lu Zheng has been calling her, texting her, and sending her all kinds of flowers every night. Because of the cold war with He Weining, she never told He Weining. At first, she thought Lu Zheng was just in a whim, but after calculating, it has been going on for a week. If it continues like this, she really can't stand it.
After thinking for a while, she took the flowers and the card and placed them on He Weining's desk.
"Please tell Lu Zheng that I'm allergic to flowers." As she said that, she spread out the card and pushed it to him.
He Weining was startled when he saw the words "Lu Zheng".
Liang Xiaodi wanted to put down the flowers and leave, but after seeing He Weining's reaction, she couldn't help herself and slammed the table and said loudly: "Are you not going to do anything about it? He has gone too far and asked me to go out with him!"
"Really?" He Weining's voice was lukewarm. He forced a smile, and the cards in his hand were crumpled to pieces.
"Really? Is this the answer you're going to give me?" Liang Xiaodi's heart paused for a moment. She looked at He Weining in disbelief, her eyes filled with disappointment, anger and sadness.
"Lu Zheng was just in a spur of the moment. He won't be like this in a few days." He stood up, held Liang Xiaodi's trembling shoulders, and patiently comforted her, "His health has just improved. For his sake..."
"What do you mean by considering him?" Liang Xiaodi was extremely angry. She shook off He Weining's hand and raised her voice by one decibel. "Why should I consider him? Why should I get involved in the feud between you brothers? I just want to be with you. I don't want anything else! If you can't do this, why were you with me in the first place? Who do you think I am? He likes me, so you will give me to him? He Weining, I'm telling you, I'm not a toy! No! I have flesh and blood, I can cry and laugh. If I don't scream in pain, do you not know that I'm in pain?"
He Weining was stunned. He looked at her, wanting to say something, but he didn't. Every word she said was like a knife, stabbing him hard in the heart, but he could only remain silent. He didn't want to see Lu Zheng's pale face, letting his life slip away, nor did he want to see Liang Xiaodi gloomy and absent-minded all day. If there was a way to cure these two people, he would be willing to do it no matter how hard it was.
"You still don't say anything..." Liang Xiaodi smiled bitterly, her voice hoarse, "You know, what hurts me the most is not that I can't get you, but that I lose you after getting you."
"He Weining, let's just call it a day." Liang Xiaodi turned and left, tears streaming down her face, her resolute back showing no sign of pause.
Liang Xiaodi really resigned this time. She did not follow any procedures, did not get anyone's permission, and did not take anything that belonged to her. The only thing she took away was He Weining's heart.
The cell phone was turned off, no one was at home, and for a while, there was no news.
When she first left, he was fine, eating and attending meetings normally. Gradually, he became more and more abnormal. Sometimes he would sit in Liang Xiaodi's seat and stare at the scenery outside the window in a daze, from the sunshine to the sunset.
Sometimes after work, he would go to the pedestrian street alone to eat very spicy malatang, and he would not stop until the food was so spicy that tears filled his eyes.
It felt like there was a piece missing from his chest, and no matter what he did, he couldn't fill that gap.
So this is what it feels like to miss someone.
