Chapter 129 The Happiness of Being with My Aunt
After Grandpa Dong left, the house became much quieter.
Grandpa went upstairs to rest, and my aunt helped my aunt clear the table. He Shu had nothing to do, so he just went over to help.
Seeing this, the uncle asked He Shu whether he wanted to stay at home that night or go back to school soon.
He Shu chose to stay at home for one night because his aunt said she was leaving tomorrow and he wanted to see her off.
Upon hearing this, my uncle ignored him, said goodbye to my aunt, and left the house.
After clearing the table, I realized that it was snowing heavily outside. In a short while, the entire courtyard was covered in white.
Qi Xue cheered, picked up a broom, called He Shu, and pulled him out to play in the snow.
The newly fallen snow was very loose and could not be compacted at all, but that did not stop her from playing. She swept all the snow into a pile, making it into a thick one.
Then she asked He Shu to squat over there and help her gather the snow together. As soon as He Shu squatted down, she kicked him from behind, causing He Shu to fall flat on his face, landing on the snow pile.
In the small courtyard, Qi Xue was laughing heartily. Seeing He Shu was about to get up, she pushed him face down into the snow pile again, and grabbed a lot of snow and stuffed it into He Shu's neck.
He Shu did not resist. Like an ostrich, he covered his neck and buried his head in the snow, motionless. He was bullied by his aunt in the snow pile.
Finally, it was my aunt who heard Qi Xue laughing so unreasonably and ran out to see what was happening. When she saw that He Shu had turned into a snowman, she got so angry that she picked up a broom and chased after my aunt to beat her.
He Shu was rescued by his aunt and taken back into the house. His good clothes were now covered in snow foam.
As soon as he entered the house, his body melted and he shivered. His aunt quickly asked him to go upstairs to change clothes and criticized his aunt again, saying that she was bullying a child.
Although it was a criticism, my aunt had a smile on her face. The Qi family had indeed not been so happy for a long time.
He Shu changed his clothes and went downstairs. His aunt had already prepared some ginger soup and told him to drink some later, as she was afraid that he would catch a cold.
My aunt also changed her clothes and leaned on the sofa, shouting that she wanted to drink a bowl too.
In the afternoon, it was snowing outside and the house was warm like spring.
After my grandfather woke up, he said he wanted to go to Grandpa Dong's house to see if he was sober, so my aunt took an umbrella and sent it to him.
Grandpa Dong also lives in this compound. My aunt said that Grandpa Dong is the only one at home and has a nanny taking care of him.
Upon hearing this, He Shu curiously asked where Grandpa Dong's family had gone.
Qi Xue leaned on He Shu, resting her head on his shoulder: "When your grandpa Dong was young, his wife died due to dystocia, and he never remarried, so now that he is old, he is all alone."
He Shu thought that Grandpa Dong, who loved drinking today, was actually such a loyal person, which was really admirable.
"Alas, when my aunt gets old, she will probably be like your Grandpa Dong, childless and alone."
"Aunt, you still have me."
Qi Xue was touched and smiled, "You said it. If you dare not provide for me in my old age, I will donate all the money I have saved instead of giving it to you."
"Huh? Auntie, have you saved a lot of money?" He Shu pretended to be surprised.
"Oh, I let it slip . If I don't have money, you won't support me, right?"
He Shu suppressed his laughter and said, "Then I definitely won't raise her. It must be very expensive to raise an old lady..."
"Well, you little brat, I was fooled by your appearance. Who are you talking about, old lady?"
Qi Xue said as she pounced on He Shu like a hungry tiger and pressed him down on the sofa: "Tell me, when I run out of money and become an old lady, will you support me?"
"Take care of my arm..."
"Qi Xue! You bullied Xiaoshu again." My aunt came back and caught him in the act as soon as she entered the house.
Qi Xue immediately let go of He Shu and quickly ran upstairs.
He Shu really didn't know whether to laugh or cry. How come this aunt had the same personality as a child?
"Aunt, take a look. Is your arm sprained? Your aunt hit you really hard."
He Shu moved his shoulders and said, "It's okay, auntie. My aunt and I are just joking."
"Now that you're back, the house is more lively. Your aunt is really happy too." How could Zhu Yu not know that Qi Xue was deliberately trying to make him laugh.
"Aunt, I will come back often to accompany you in the future."
"Okay..." Zhu Yu felt relieved that He Shu could say that.
In the evening, we had a big meal as usual, including my aunt's specialty, stew and pancakes.
My grandfather ate a lot of it, he just liked it. While eating, he told He Shu that in the past, only wealthy families could eat such food.
He also said that when he was young, grains were not so fine. The bread at that time was mixed with bran, and it was not something you could eat every day.
As he was talking, grandpa recalled the hard days in the past...
He Shu also thought that this dish was delicious. The stew contained dried beans, potatoes, pumpkin, corn, and fatty and lean pork belly. It was stewed until it was soft and juicy, and it was really delicious with rice.
Listening to my grandfather reminiscing about the good and bad times, the taste of the food in my mouth seemed to become more mellow.
Life is indeed very happy now. Even a child like him will not starve to death because of living alone.
Society has changed. In the past, people only had enough food and clothing and had no time to think about anything else. Now, many people will do anything to improve their quality of life.
It’s hard to say which era’s people feel more tired.
Just as I finished my meal and put down my bowl and chopsticks, my uncle came back. He was always late for dinner.
But my uncle didn’t mind. He served himself a big bowl of rice, put the vegetable base on the rice, and finished it in a few mouthfuls.
Grandpa smiled and said to He Shu: "The good thing about your uncle is that he has been easy to raise since he was a child and has never been picky about food."
After getting to know each other for a while, He Shu discovered that his uncle actually had many good qualities.
On weekdays, he doesn't smoke or drink and insists on training. At the age of 50, his figure is better than many young people in their twenties.
He is just a little strict when training others. So far, He Shu only knows that his uncle seems to be an instructor somewhere, but it is not clear what kind of soldiers he is training and what level they are.
I wonder if my uncle is a hundred times stricter when training his soldiers than when he is training college students?
The weather outside was bad in the evening, so after dinner the whole family stayed in the house and no one went out.
The Qi family’s TV is only turned on when the news is broadcast at 7 o’clock every day. After watching the news, everyone goes back to their rooms.
That night, He Shu slept soundly, hugging the big bear he won with his aunt at the amusement park.
At 2:30 in the morning , all the lights outside were on except in the old man's and He Shu's room.
Qi Xue changed into a thick cotton coat, wore military boots, a black baseball cap, and walked out of the room with a packed backpack on her back.
Qi Zhijun also got up, without a trace of sleepiness on his face.
He was also dressed warmly, ready to send Qi Xue off.
Zhu Yu, wearing pajamas, sent Qi Xue to the living room downstairs and whispered instructions to her.
"Don't be reckless. I know why you want to go to Wanta. Listen to me. I have really let go of Guangxing's matter. You must come back safely."
Qi Xue's eyes were slightly red, and she reached out to hug her sister-in-law: "Don't worry, sister-in-law, you've been working hard at home."
Zhu Yu nodded, trying not to cry. She thought this was unlucky. "You really didn't ask Xiaoshu to send you off. That kid stayed behind just to send you off. If you didn't ask him, how disappointed would he be when he woke up?"
Qi Xue shook her head and glanced upstairs: "Forget it, let him sleep..."
