Chapter 12 Two Brothers
Less than a month after joining the Fuyao sect, Cheng Qian encountered the biggest crisis of his life - he had to follow his effeminate eldest brother who only knew how to flatter and cause trouble, and his second eldest brother who was a pretty boy with ulterior motives, as a weasel's disciple, to the chicken coop to rescue his fourth eldest brother who might have been eaten to the point where only half of his body was left.
What if that divine chicken master refuses to let us go?
What if by the time they get there, Fourth Junior Brother has become someone’s meal?
Cheng Qian looked down at the talisman in his hand. After the master carved the wooden plaque, he directly threw it to them without saying what it was used for or how to use it. But the eldest brother just took it and left without asking. Could it be that he knew something?
Cheng Qian hesitated again and again, still not daring to believe that the elder brother had a broad mind and could think of something other than incense, so he once again gritted his teeth and asked humbly despite Yan Zhengming's ridicule: "Brother, do you know what the talisman given by Master is used for?"
Yan Zhengming answered without thinking: "It attracted thunder."
Seeing that he answered so readily, Cheng Qian couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. As expected, the eldest senior brother had a sense of qi and had learned talismans after all, otherwise he wouldn't have been so confident.
Unfortunately, if Cheng Qian had known more about their senior brother's half-full bottle, he should not have given up so early - Yan Zhengming actually just took a rough glance and thought that this thing looked similar to a lightning-attracting talisman, and gave Cheng Qian such an assessment unwaveringly.
Yan Zhengming simply didn't have the patience to sit there and learn some talismans every day. Every time he tried to memorize the general shapes of common talismans in order to pass his master's inspection, he had no idea that the slightest mistake in the art of talismans could lead to a huge error.
The three of them quickly reached the back mountain together. Except for Cheng Qian, the other two were familiar with the route.
There is a straight cliff at the back of the mountain. Through the cracks in the rocks, you can see the abyss below. The cold wind rolls up from the cracks in the rocks.
Cheng Qian couldn't help but look down, and at that moment he felt his heart skip a beat, it was too high and too deep. He had never climbed to such a dangerous place before, and his face turned pale at first, and he subconsciously retracted his head and leaned in. But after a while, he took a breath, and the deep cliff seemed to have some indescribable attraction to him. Cheng Qian took a deep breath, held back his nausea, and carefully looked down again.
Perhaps because he was used to following the rules, Cheng Qian found for the first time that he somewhat liked this dangerous place on the edge of the abyss.
"What are you looking at? Do you want to be smashed into a meat pie that can't hold the stuffing?" Seeing that half of Cheng Qian's body was sticking out, Yan Zhengming could no longer bear it. He raised his hand, grabbed his shoulder and pulled him back.
Yan Zhengming was very confused. Why were these kids so eager to die? He couldn't help but think back to when he was this age. He seemed to be a very well-behaved child and had never been naughty. Could it be that the kids his master had picked up this time were all freaks?
Of course, the "delicate" Young Master Yan had never played tricks on the eggs. He was too lazy to even walk to the morning class and had to ask someone to carry him. No matter how big the egg was, it was not enough for him to condescend to play tricks on it.
At this time, they had already heard the sound of water. Yan Zhengming fiercely dug the mud under his feet on a big rock, with an expression of inexplicable hatred, as if the fact that his shoes dared to get stained with mud was the greatest treason in the world.
After getting stuck in the mud, Yan Zhengming turned around and glanced at Li Yun: "Almost there, this way."
This young man had been spoiled to the point of being lawless. His every emotion was revealed in his facial features without any trace of concealment. Cheng Qian felt that the look from his senior brother contained some unspeakable malice, contempt, disgust, etc., as if to say, "Haven't you always wanted to see what the cave looks like? Now you've got your wish. Take a look at it, even if you're blinded."
Li Yun's face turned pale, almost transparent. Seeing this, Cheng Qian couldn't help but start to think, if these two brothers started to fight each other, how would he, a small and insignificant person, quell the war?
But unexpectedly, Li Yun said nothing and endured the anger willingly, as if he would feel better if Yan Zhengming said a few more harsh words to him.
Yan Zhengming glared at him and led the two of them to the edge of the big pond on the top of the mountain.
"Can you swim?" Yan Zhengming asked. Then, without waiting for anyone to answer, he said, "It's okay if you can't. Hold your breath and follow me closely. Don't splash around when you go down."
After saying this, Yan Zhengming grabbed Cheng Qian's wrist with a look of disgust and helplessness, as if he was forced to touch dog shit.
Cheng Qian had never come into contact with such a pair of hands until his age. These hands were better maintained than those of anyone he had ever seen - even the hands of the little girl who combed his senior brother's hair. There were only a few inconspicuous calluses on the places where he held the sword and the pen, and they were not thick, which showed that this guy was not willing to work hard.
Apart from this, there wasn't even a single barb on his hands.
But then, Cheng Qian was dragged into the water by this beautiful white hand.
The water was freezing cold and Cheng Qian almost couldn't hold his breath. The water splashed all around him when the three people jumped down. For a moment, he was disoriented. Cheng Qian tightly held the wooden sign in his arms and was pulled forward by Yan Zhengming without knowing north, south, east and west.
Soon, a huge rock blocked the way of the three people.
Yan Zhengming pulled Cheng Qian's sleeve and used his sleeve as a rag to wipe off the moss and water plants on the stone. Only then did he find a small Big Dipper on the stone surface. He gestured a few times at the mouth of the spoon, then aimed at a certain place and pressed down with his thumb.
If someone is familiar with the stars, they will know that the position where Yan Zhengming pressed was exactly where the North Star was in the night sky. Then there was a loud "boom" and the stone door opened. Cheng Qian was almost washed away by the huge water flow. He hugged the stone door with his hands and feet and rushed forward with all his might.
Then, Cheng Qian was surprised to find that his feet were on solid ground.
Behind the big stone gate there is a long and narrow passage that runs through the water. It seems like there is something invisible and intangible that isolates the water, like a transparent tube that goes straight to the bottom of the water. The water droplets on Cheng Qian's body fall down and then merge silently into the water again. The water splashes are blocked outside and cannot splash up.
At their feet was a row of stone steps that were only wide enough for one person to pass through, winding down to an unobstructed valley.
Yan Zhengming held his fancy sword in his hand. It was obvious that he didn't want to anger anyone, so even though he was very alert, he still didn't draw his sword.
The stone steps seemed to never end, and as they went deeper, the surroundings became increasingly cold and unbearable.
Li Yun, who had been silent all the way, finally couldn't help but speak: "He...how did Junior Brother get down here? How could he have the courage to go so deep in a place like this?"
This question also raised Cheng Qian's doubts, because in his limited understanding, Han Yuan, a coward who was afraid of dogs, definitely did not have such a heroic spirit of exploration, even for the sake of Qi.
"Nonsense, on the night of the first and full moon, thousands of demons face the moon, and the stone gate is wide open. Of course, the valley won't be like this," said the eldest brother, with a stern face like a debtor. "Your questions are nonsense, but they don't make any sense."
This one sentence slapped the two men in the face, and Li Yun and Cheng Qian, who "didn't use their brains", were speechless.
Suddenly, Yan Zhengming stopped unexpectedly, and Cheng Qian, who was following behind him, bumped into him without paying attention.
His height was just up to Yan Zhengming's chest, so Yan Zhengming easily stretched out his hand and stopped him at his side.
The orchid fragrance on the eldest brother's body, which even the cold pond water could not wash away, almost made Cheng Qian sneeze. Then he heard a "hissing" sound. When he lowered his head, he found that the eldest brother had actually pulled off half of his sleeve that was stained with algae and dirt.
In response, the eldest brother said with a clear conscience: "Why are you still carrying it with you? Don't you think it's dirty?"
It was as if Cheng Qian’s sleeves were not dirty by him!
Forced to become a "homosexual" for no apparent reason, Cheng Qian suddenly felt that his senior brother was not so much of a girl anymore - if there really were such a bad girl in the world, she would probably never be able to get married in the future.
The stone steps had reached the end at some point, and in front of them was a cave entrance that was more than two people tall. Two large stone doors that should have been closed were open, revealing a dark and eerie corner inside.
"Strange," Yan Zhengming whispered, "Master Zipeng didn't close the door?"
Humans and demons have different paths. Yan Zhengming himself hated hairy birds and beasts, so he put himself in their shoes and felt that a hairless creature like himself would not be very welcome here. The cave was not a good place to come to, and the unusualness of this day made the heartless Yan Zhengming feel a little uneasy.
Yan Zhengming hesitated for a moment, then walked in through the gap in the open stone door. A sweet fragrance hit him in the face, but his sensitive and delicate nose still detected a faint fishy smell.
There was a chicken feather carved on the stone wall of the inner door, but at this moment, the mark was very faint, and the tail was almost invisible. It didn't take any common sense to guess that the owner of the mark might not be in a good condition. The question was... Was she dying, or was she harmed by someone?
True Man Zi Peng was a great demon with over 800 years of Taoist practice and great magical powers. He shouldn't have allowed a few of them to sneak in so quietly. Out of caution, Yan Zhengming didn't say anything.
He turned around and made a "quiet" gesture to the two annoying fellow apprentices behind him, then tiptoed to a locked stone door inside and tentatively turned the mechanism on it.
Halfway through the twist, he remembered something, paused, and growled at Li Yun and Cheng Qian, "Stay away, you have no eyesight, are you standing there to be a target?"
Cheng Qian and Li Yun immediately stepped back to the sides.
Yan Zhengming turned the mechanism to the bottom, and there was a teeth-grinding "creaking" sound. The stone door let out a hoarse groan, and goose bumps suddenly appeared on Cheng Qian's arms. A fishy smell of blood rushed to his forehead. Then, he heard an ominous sound of wind. Before he could say a warning, Cheng Qian caught a glimpse of a sword out of the corner of his eye.
The eldest senior brother drew out his sword. It was a real sword. The light of the sword was so bright that it was almost blinding. A stream of cold air was mobilized by him as the sword light passed by, forming a vortex in the small stone door.
Unfortunately, the young man's strength was just like an ant trying to shake a tree in the eyes of the big monster. Yan Zhengming hadn't even drawn his sword yet, but he already felt the huge vibration in his palm. His pampered tender hands could not withstand the tearing impact no matter what. Before he could react, the hand holding the sword had involuntarily loosened.
With a clang, the sword fell to the ground and Yan Zhengming retreated seven or eight steps. The hand that had been holding the sword had almost lost all feeling.
The three young men looked down in confusion, and saw that next to the bright and cold sword was a feather that had knocked it away.
A terrible silence spread, and Cheng Qian saw that the eldest brother's face looked extremely ugly.
After a long while, Yan Zhengming frowned, flicked off the dirt on his body, and said, "I am Yan Zhengming of the Fuyao Sect, and I am here to pay my respects to Master Zipeng on the orders of my master."
