Chapter 11 Grandma
Chapter 11 Grandma
Seeing their daughter confidently comforting them, Fang's parents finally breathed a sigh of relief. They were originally worried that their daughter would be upset, and since she didn't care, they had nothing to be angry about.
"It's good that you think it through. However, this engagement was verbally agreed upon by your grandfather and the old man of the Liu family. I'm afraid your grandmother will come back and make a fuss about this..."
Fang Qing frowned slightly. How could she have forgotten about this! Grandpa passed away a few years ago, and grandma has been living in my uncle's house, which is closer to my grandfather's grave. She hasn't come back to live in the old house in all these years.
Now that the engagement made by grandpa is broken, grandma is a person who obeys orders. I guess she will be furious...
Fang Qing thought about it all night. If grandma knew, how should she explain it, but before she could think it through, grandma came back early the next morning accompanied by her aunt's family!
My brother went to open the door with a messy head, and was scolded by grandma as soon as he entered the door. Then, she headed straight for the living room, leaning on her cane and sitting in the main seat, awaiting the arrival of the second branch of the Fang family.
"Look at what time it is now? You're all still sleeping soundly under your covers! Humph! In the past, if your family were so lazy, you'd starve to death!"
Fang Qing had finished cleaning up, but she hadn't had time to brush her hair or wash her face. She saw the clock on the wall read 6:30 and silently averted her gaze, lamenting how early the elderly rose.
Grandma recounted every ailing member of the household, finally feeling thirsty. Fang Qing immediately brewed a cup of jasmine tea and respectfully brought it to her.
"Grandma, have a drink and rest. Are you tired? Let me give you a shoulder massage."
The old lady narrowed her eyes, studying her granddaughter for a long moment before nodding, taking a sip of tea and closing her eyes.
Everyone in the living room, young and old, stood in silence until Fang Qing finished massaging and the old lady finally recovered. Only then did she allow the second branch of the family to clean up.
Seeing this, the aunt who had been standing behind her darkened her eyes, raised the corner of her mouth, stepped forward, took Fang Qing's hand and began to comfort her.
"What a fool you are, you didn't tell your aunt about such a big thing? You are a girl, and you encounter such a thing... Hey! What will you do in the future..."
Hearing this, the old lady sitting next to her immediately changed her face, "What's wrong with Qing girl? Is there something else besides the Sun family's cancellation of the engagement that I don't know about? Decai, Chunxia, both of you come out!"
Looking at the smiling face of the aunt, Fang Qing's heart sank: She knew that this aunt would not be so obedient! She had been wondering why grandma didn't tell her about this, it turned out that she was waiting for her here! You are really my good aunt!
"Grandma, some things did happen recently, but I thought my aunt had told you everything. Now it seems that my aunt also has only a superficial understanding. In fact, the whole thing was deliberately distorted by someone with ulterior motives. The thing is..."
Fang Qing finished the whole thing concisely and mentioned the Sun family at the end, "Maybe they heard these rumors and felt that I did not meet the requirements of their Sun family, so they proposed to cancel the engagement. However, I think it's a good thing."
The old lady snorted, and the veins on her hand holding the crutch were full. "A good thing? Silly child, a girl's engagement was broken off, and you will have to carry this stigma for the rest of your life!"
Fang Qing squatted down and leaned on grandma's knees, as docile as a kitten, "Grandma, I know you're mad at me, but the Sun family is so quick to believe anything they hear. They're so eager to get rid of me, and that shows the character of their family. Even if I marry into their family, I'm not sure I'll have a good life. When Grandpa was alive, he always told me that the most important thing about a person is character. No matter how good a person is, it's useless if their character isn't good. Grandma, what do you think?"
Perhaps because Grandpa had started his homework, she was silent for a long time. Looking at her granddaughter with bright eyes on her knees, she finally softened her heart and ruffled her hair. "Your grandpa loved you the most when he was alive. If he knew you'd been wronged, he would be upset..."
Fang Qing finally breathed a sigh of relief. Grandma's words made her stop being angry. She stood up, rubbing his shoulders and acting coquettish, finally getting the old lady to stop fussing.
Fang's mother had already prepared breakfast, and since it was rare for the family to get together for a meal, the old lady didn't bring up these unhappy things anymore. She ate with her granddaughter, then let her aunt help her back home.
Before leaving, the old lady took Fang Qing by the hand and said something mysteriously before getting on a beat-up tricycle and disappearing down the alley.
Fang Ming walked over curiously and bumped into his sister. "Sister, what did Grandma just say to you?"
Fang Qing looked up at the blue sky and smiled. "Grandma said she'd help me get revenge."
...
With the matter finally over, the Fang family felt the cloud of worry lift. Delighted, Fang's father asked his son to get two taels of wine and cook a few delicious dishes to liven up the house and dispel the bad luck.
Fang's mother also happened to be making some food to thank the Wen family for their continued support. Without Director Wen's testimony in the principal's office, who knows how long the dispute with those parents would have lasted, and their daughter would have surely suffered at school.
These days, there aren't many good gifts to give, so making something to send home is a better way to show your thoughtfulness. So, Fang's mother prepared the ingredients overnight, and the next morning, she lit the stove and fried a large pot of meatballs and spring rolls, asking Fang Qing to deliver them to the Wen brothers and sisters while they were still hot.
Fang Ming dropped off his sister on his bicycle and headed straight for the factory. Fang Qing turned around, straightened her clothes, and gently knocked on the door.
Wen Ning opened the door and saw Fang Qing, whose face was red from the cold, and quickly asked her to come in.
"Are you looking for Wen Ling? She's not up yet. Go inside and wait a minute. I'll go get her."
Fang Qing hurriedly called out to him, holding up the lunch box in her hand. "Don't call her. I'll put the things down and leave. These are the meatballs and spring rolls my mother made. I brought some over for you to try..."
Wen Ning paused, glanced at the lunch box in Fang Qing's hand, smiled slightly, and reached out to take it. "I'm sorry to have cost you, auntie."
Seeing that she didn't mind, Fang Qing breathed a sigh of relief and turned to leave. Wen Ling heard the sound and ran out with her hair a mess like a bird's nest. She pulled her and said she was taking her somewhere fun today, and begged Fang Qing to braid her hair.
Wen Ning watched Fang Qing gently combing his sister's hair. He felt that the girl in the morning light was like a painting, and his eyes were unconsciously attracted to her. It was not until the two left that Wen Ning realized that he had lost his composure. Then he was very calm. He was just appreciating beauty and there was nothing to be embarrassed about.
Then he saw the lunch box wrapped in a blue handkerchief on the table. He opened the lid and ate a meatball. The meaty aroma filled his mouth and was very amazing. Wen Ning's usually calm face finally showed a hint of satisfaction.
Then, as if he thought of something, he took out his lunch box, picked out some, and then smiled with satisfaction.
