Chapter 10 Breaking the Ice
Dou Xun was a problem student with excellent grades, and his parents had been called in by the teacher more than once.
At first, the teachers didn't understand his family situation, but after seeing the child's character, they wanted to call his whole family to the school to study the mental health of adolescents. Later, after they learned a little bit, they mostly turned a blind eye and let the matter go.
Dou Xun’s parents were called to the school in his previous school because he had a fight with his classmates.
It turns out that the boarding school also has a character like Xu Xilin who is very popular with people, and he also dislikes Dou Xun. However, the "Xu Xilin" over there is unwilling to keep quiet like the one here, and every few days he wants to bring his lackeys to show Dou Xun some power.
Dou Xun was born not to be the kind of person who would passively take a beating. He was proud and arrogant, and didn't take any stupid "power" seriously. The conflict between the two sides continued to escalate, and finally, in the dead of night, they all jumped over the wall of the dormitory and started fighting.
Dou Xun planned for two days and took advantage of all the favorable circumstances and defeated five opponents by himself. He also attracted the dormitory teacher before the opponent's reinforcements arrived. It was a self-defense and his record was remarkable... Unfortunately, it was not recognized by the authorities and his parents were called in afterwards.
At that time, the teacher called Dou Junliang, who impatiently passed the call to Dou Xun's grandfather. The grandfather already had coronary heart disease, and after hearing about this, he hurried to the school, but ended up having a seizure at the doorstep.
Dou Xun's grandmother passed away first. The old man sent his grandson to boarding school, refused a nanny, and lived alone. Because he looked healthy, his children did not take it too seriously. Unexpectedly, he fell ill out of nowhere, and his body was not discovered until it was cold.
From then on, the teacher never dared to contact his parents again.
In the long corridor of No. 6 Middle School, Dou Xun followed Xu Jin silently with his schoolbag on his back. It was past the end of school hour, and the teaching building was quiet, with only one edge of the faded afterglow. Dou Xun walked silently, and the only sound in the corridor was the sound of Ms. Xu Jin's high heels.
Xu Jin is not the kind of gentle and amiable woman. Even the back of her head is more thoughtful than others. Dou Xun is not as comfortable in front of her as in front of Grandma Xu... But it's okay. Anyway, he is better than the American nun Zhu Xiaocheng.
Xu Jin suddenly gave a phone number and turned to ask him, "Do you remember it?"
Dou Xun was stunned and nodded blankly.
"This is my phone number. It's always on," Xu Jin said. "Next time if you have any problems, just ask the teacher to call this number directly. Has your mother ever beaten you?"
Dou Xun: “…”
From childhood to adulthood, it was difficult for him to even be received by Zhu Xiaocheng once, let alone have the honor of being beaten.
"Here." Xu Jin handed his handbag to Dou Xun.
Dou Xun just took it without knowing what was going on, and Xu Jin took the folder he brought from the company and slapped Dou Xun on the butt.
It didn't hurt too much, and Dou Xun didn't know whether he should hide or not. He just stood there in confusion, taking a few hits while holding his bag. He opened his eyes slightly, as if he was stunned.
Xu Jin: "Is the teacher asking you to do homework on purpose to hurt you? Is it for your own good?"
Dou Xun shook his head silently, then nodded.
Xu Jin: "If you think the homework is not suitable for you, why don't you communicate with the teacher in private? She is so old, and she is embarrassed by you in class. If other students follow suit, how can she work? Adults work to support their families. It's not easy for anyone. You naughty kids are so good. You take your pocket money and make trouble everywhere. You deliberately create obstacles for others' work. You think you are handsome, don't you?"
Dou Xun was speechless again - who would consider so much when talking back to the teacher?
"The teacher was kind to you, but you didn't appreciate it and even made things difficult for him." Xu Jin summed up the situation with one sentence, "Are you a bastard?"
What she said made sense. Dou Xun lowered his head silently and had to admit that he was indeed a bastard.
"I'm so pissed." Xu Jin took his bag from him. "I was brought to your school to get scolded just as the meeting was about to start. Go home and help Aunt Du wash dishes for a week."
When Dou Xun heard the word "go home", he looked up at Xu Jin sensitively and found that her makeup was a little smudged and she didn't have time to touch it up. Suddenly, he felt very sorry.
Xu Jin was very busy. He heard his grandmother Xu nagging that sometimes she had to work more than a hundred hours a week, and after a business trip, even dogs couldn't recognize her. Yet she made a special trip for such a trivial matter as him - this ran counter to his original idea of "settling down quietly and not causing trouble for others".
Dou Xun felt that he should say "Thank you, Auntie", but just saying this sentence seemed a bit too simple, so simple and awkward that it would be better not to say it.
He thought: "Should I add something like 'to trouble you' at the end?"
It didn't seem right. Compared with the sentence before when Xu Jin punished him to wash the dishes, this seemed too polite and inappropriate.
Just as he was hesitating, Dou Xun saw Xu Jin waving towards the front. It was Xu Xilin coming over.
Before he knew it...he had missed the chance to reply.
Dou Xun felt that there might be something wrong with him. The sarcasm in his heart would come out at any time and he would make others fall flat on their faces when he opened his mouth. Occasionally, he wanted to say a few nice words, but he would always hesitate and procrastinate. He was really like eating shit while it was hot.
Xu Xilin ran over and took Xu Jin's bag flatteringly: "Mom, let me get it for you."
Xu Jin slapped him away and said, "Get out of the way! I get goose bumps when I hear the word 'mom' - I think you failed the test, didn't you?"
Xu Xilin really failed the exam, so he flattered his superior very eagerly and inadvertently glanced back at Dou Xun.
Dou Xun paused. He knew that Xu Jin would not come to school for no reason. It must be Xu Xilin who notified him. This time, coupled with the last incident in the bathroom on the second floor, Dou Xun didn't know what to do for a moment.
Fortunately, Xu Xilin quickly looked away and didn't want to pay attention to him.
Calling Xu Jin was just a piece of cake for Xu Xilin, not for Dou Xun, but for his mother Zhu Chengzi. Although the American nun was a bit of a nobody, she had always been very nice to Xu Xilin. Since she had entrusted the child to their family, she couldn't be too inconsiderate anyway.
One thing is one thing - this is what Xu Jin taught him since he was a child.
After leaving the school gate, Xu Jin looked at her watch and found that it was time for dinner. She called her secretary and asked her to send her the minutes of the meeting. Then she turned to the two kids who ignored each other and said, "I have to go back to work overtime tonight. How about this? I'll take you two out for dinner, and then you can take a taxi home. The one who washes the dishes will be deferred for one day starting tomorrow."
When Xu Xilin heard this, he immediately forgot about the fact that he had failed the monthly exam - he and his mother both loved to eat junk food, but unfortunately the kitchen director at home was his grandmother Xu, who was a famous actress when she was young, and she still pays attention to health and finesse when eating. Over time, her mouth could be filled with the smell of red-crowned cranes.
Xu Xilin: "What to eat?"
Xu Jin: “Pizza Hut!”
Xu Xilin hypocritically evaded the question: "It's not good... Grandma always says you are fat and won't let you eat these."
"I'm not fat, I'm plump!" Ms. Xu Jin raised her eyebrows, "Your grandmother is a feudal remnant. She still believes that women with waists over two feet can't be called 'waists', but can only be called 'middle'. What kind of thinking is this? It should be criticized!"
After Ms. Xu Jin finished her righteous criticism, she called Dou Xun, who was in a daze at the back, over and said, "Don't tell grandma when you get home. Do you hear me? If you dare to betray me, I'll make you wash dishes for a month."
This was the first time that Dou Xun was forced to join such a reactionary squad. He stared at Xu Jin for a while before he reacted slowly and nodded uncomfortably.
"It's ok for this kid to be stubborn and obstinate, but why is he so stupid?" Xu Jin thought, "It's really frustrating."
Xu Jin drove them to a Pizza Hut and ordered them to take off their coats and stuff them into their school bags at the door, so that the dog wouldn't smell the smell when they got home. Then Xu Xilin rushed in first and announced on the spot: "I want to build a three-meter-long salad bowl!"
When the waiter at the door heard this, his face turned purple.
Dou Xun was carrying a school bag that was so bulging from his coat that he could barely zip it up. He thought expressionlessly, "How embarrassing."
Seeing that Xu Xilin and Dou Xun didn't really want to cooperate with each other, Xu Jin didn't rush to force them to get along peacefully. She bought two self-service salad bowls and let them play: "Go, let's see who can stack the highest."
Dou Xun held the small bowl and felt like he was back in kindergarten.
Looking at Xu Xilin again, he had blended into a group of teenagers without any psychological barriers. The heights of the teenagers formed a sine function, and Xu Tuanzuo was the shameless 90°.
"How embarrassing." This was the only thing on Dou Xun's mind as he walked over while rolling over.
On Monday morning, Dou Xun did not go to school early to study as usual. He first memorized words with the words "Beauty like flowers, time like water" by Grandma Xu downstairs. He finished memorizing the words in a short while. Dou Xun had nothing to do, so he started to memorize the less boring texts in the textbook. He was almost impatient when he heard some movement from Xu Xilin's room next door.
"This little noise" is a concerto produced by six alarm clocks howling at the same time, with such a loud sound that it can penetrate the soundproof walls of the KTV.
Dou Xun then packed up his books and went downstairs, regretting his decision to wait for Xu Xilin: "Isn't his head meant to be a tray for his face? Does a tray need to rest for so long?"
Five minutes later, Xu Xilin hurried downstairs and saw Dou Xun in the restaurant. He was quite surprised and thought, "Why hasn't he left yet? Did he take the wrong medicine?"
The two of them sat at the same dining table and first cursed each other in silence, making the atmosphere of breakfast weird.
After breakfast, we have to face the embarrassment of going to school together again.
Dou Xun prepared himself mentally, thinking: "I'll just treat it as walking the dog."
Xu Xilin frowned, thinking: "Fuck, the unlucky star is with me, nothing good will happen today."
The two of them went out one after the other, one meter apart. The one in front didn't look back, and the one behind didn't keep up. They went to school together as if no one knew each other.
Along the way, Dou Xun always felt like he had forgotten something, until he sat down in his seat and saw Xu Xilin greeting those big guys in the back row one by one, and then his heart moved slightly.
Dou Xun thought: "Right, I should say 'morning'."
However, it was already late, and he didn't have time to say it out loud before it expired.
