Chapter 1: The Strange Red Cheongsam 5. Red cheongsam

Yunyun was in a trance when she saw a woman in a red cheongsam floating into the room. Then she walked to the cabinet, opened it gently, and reached in to take something. Yunyun opened her eyes wide and looked at her in amazement. The woman slowly turned her head and Yunyun saw a pale face and fierce eyes. She screamed in fear.
"What's wrong, Yunyun? Did you have a nightmare?" Yunyun heard Yu's voice and slowly opened her eyes to see Yu close to her face. Yunyun felt cold sweat all over her body. It was just a dream, she muttered to herself, but the woman in the red cheongsam seemed as real as if she was right in front of her.
Yunyun got up and put on her clothes, watching the bright light coming in through the screen window with the bird painting, shining into the girl's boudoir. Yunyun accidentally saw the screen mirror in front of the screen window and was startled. She remembered something and looked up at the screen mirror. She saw the oil-painted waiting girl. Her eyes opened wide in surprise, completely white. She thought of the woman in the red cheongsam last night and slowly turned around. "Ah--" She almost screamed and quickly covered her mouth with both hands. She murmured nervously , "Could the legend be true?"
Wu Yu felt panicky when he saw Yunyun staring at a faded red-painted cabinet in a daze, as if she was possessed by an evil spirit.
"What's wrong, Yunyun?" Wu Yu grabbed Yunyun's shoulders tightly and shook her.
Yunyun was stunned for a moment, then suddenly realized what was happening. She cried out in pain, "Ouch!" and then gritted her teeth and said, "You hurt me."
"Yunyun scared me just now. What happened?" Wu Yuqing hugged Yunyun and comforted her.
Yunyun looked around the house slowly and said timidly, "Don't you feel that this house seems to make people feel uneasy? Look at everything in the room, it's clearly the boudoir of a woman in the Republic of China."
"So, this house was the boudoir of a lady during the Republic of China. Could it be the legendary Miss Xinluo..." Wu Yu said as he widened his eyes in surprise.
"Do we dare to live in this dead person's house?" Yunyun leaned timidly in Wu Yu's arms.
Wu Yu thought about it and suddenly smiled: "What's the big deal? We scared ourselves. I think this kind of house is better. Yunyun can paint quietly, right?"
Yunyun thought it made sense, and her originally rosy face slowly returned to its rosy color. She smiled and said, "Then you should go and ask the old man about the rent. We can't live in someone else's house for free."
"Well, I'll go there and find out about Su Wei." Wu Yu kissed Yunyun lightly, then turned around and opened the door to go out. "It is said that this house has been empty. Who is that old man? Is this really the address in Su Wei's letter?" Wu Yu walked towards the backyard with doubts.
After seeing Yu leave, Yunyun walked to the screen and looked at the painting carefully because she liked it. The painting showed several women playing chess together in the Republic of China. But one of the women had her back turned, so her face could not be seen clearly. She was wearing a red cheongsam. Each woman in the painting was painted vividly, and it could be seen that it was a very good work, but it might be a fake, otherwise it would not be hung there. Yunyun inadvertently looked at the work to see if there was a name left. When she saw it, she was shocked. There were only five regular script characters on it: "白狐心落画".
"Is it true that the legend says Xinluo is a white fox? Otherwise, why is there a title called White Fox Xinluo? This room seems to be Xinluo's boudoir." The more Yunyun thought about it, the more uneasy she felt. She sat down on the red nanmu chair in front of the screen. Yunyun looked into the screen and saw that her fair face looked a little haggard. She thought it was because she didn't sleep well last night, so she caressed her face with her jade fingers. Suddenly, Yunyun saw the dead face of the woman in the red cheongsam appear in the screen. She turned back in shock, but saw nothing. She looked at the screen again and saw only herself. She thought she was just imagining things and had an illusion.
"What's wrong with me today? Am I too nervous, or am I really living in a haunted house and having hallucinations?" She murmured to herself. Suddenly, she remembered the dream she had last night, stood up and walked towards the cabinet.
Yunyun slowly opened the cabinet with trepidation. Through the dim light, she saw that the cabinet was divided into four layers, and clothes were placed on each layer. Yunyun found that each piece of clothing was ancient costume. She found a red cheongsam in the lowest layer, and she took it out curiously. She remembered the legend that Miss Xinluo liked to wear red cheongsams, and she was startled and almost dropped the cheongsam. She thought it was the clothes of a dead person and it would be unlucky to keep it, but from the perspective of modern people, this red cheongsam is an antique. When she thought of this, she couldn't help but feel pleasantly surprised.
From a woman's perspective on clothes, she felt that this cheongsam was very soft, made of high-quality fabrics, and with such bright colors, she was moved after seeing it. She suddenly had this idea, why not try it on and see for herself. She thought about it and went over to close the door, then slowly took off her skirt in front of the screen mirror, and then put on the red cheongsam. After she put it on, she felt her eyes brightened. She found that there was a beauty in the screen mirror. This cheongsam completely revealed her graceful figure. She felt that this red cheongsam seemed to be made especially for her and was the most suitable. At that moment, she seemed to have traveled through time and space back to the Republic of China.
"It's really beautiful." Yunyun couldn't help but turned around in surprise, with a look of joy on her face that showed the joy of a woman who had achieved great satisfaction.
Yunyun was just surprised when the door suddenly creaked and Wu Yu walked in. He was shocked to see a woman in a red cheongsam standing in front of the screen. He almost screamed and thought he saw a ghost. Yunyun heard the door creak, turned around slowly, and said to Yu with a smile: "Yu, does it look good?"
Wu Yu couldn't help but sigh, and suddenly thought that Yunyun had never had a cheongsam, so where did she get it? So he asked in confusion: "This cheongsam——"
Yunyun looked at Wu Yu and smiled, then slowly turned around and said, " I found this cheongsam in that cabinet. Doesn't it look beautiful when I wear it?"
"Yunyun." Wu Yu said angrily, "Although this red cheongsam is beautiful, it is after all a thing of a dead person. It would be unlucky to wear it. What's more, we are renting here and the old people told us not to move anything in the room." Although Wu Yu is not superstitious, he always feels uneasy wearing the clothes of a dead person.
Yunyun felt unhappy when she heard Wu Yu say this. She was already obsessed with this red cheongsam. She took it off reluctantly, put on her clothes, and folded it and put it back. She suddenly thought that since we were living in this house, I could wear it once Wu Yu went out. When she thought of this, she smiled cheerfully and turned around and said, "Have you already negotiated the rent? Is this really the address in Wilson Su's letter?"
Wu Yu said sadly, "I arrived at the backyard and found it desolate, as if no one lived there. All the doors in the backyard were closed, and no one answered when I called. I thought the old man might have gone out, or maybe..."
Wu Yu shuddered when he thought of this. Yunyun felt cold in her heart when she heard this and said in panic, "Could the legend be true? It seems we should leave here, or we will see something even more unclean next."
"There are no ghosts in this world, so why should we scare ourselves? But things are getting weirder and weirder. We must find out the truth before we can feel at ease." Wu Yu said as he took Yunyun's hand and walked out the door, then turned around and closed the door. They walked out the door in silence, carefully looking at the front yard . They found that although the front yard was deserted, it seemed to be clean in the gloomy atmosphere, so they wondered who came to clean the yard. Could it be the old man? They also found that there seemed to be a well in the southwest corner. They went over to take a look and found that it was indeed an ancient well. The well seemed to be very deep, and the dark water was rippling with dark light and shadow. They left the yard with doubts about the ancient well, closed it tightly, and then walked out along the alley based on their memory. They found that there was wisteria growing in the yard, and the purple petals were scattered all over the ground. Because it was not cleaned, the color of the petals gradually changed from bright to dry.
