Chapter 1: Strange Man
June 2007, Southwest Police University.
"A few days ago, a major case occurred in the north. The murderer used an almost cruel method to cut off the victim's fingers one by one, then mixed them into canned food and sold them to the outside world!"
Professor Gu Xia's calm voice rang out in the seemingly small classroom. As the voice fell, his fingers moved lightly on the projection screen in front of him.
brush!
A horrifying photo suddenly appeared on the projection behind Gu Xia!
The photo shows an opened can with the minced meat in the can scattered all over the floor. In the mess in the photo, one can easily spot the white bone. What's more obvious is that, as Gu Xia said, this is a human finger.
"The police currently have very limited clues, and many professional profilers in the industry have not found any clues that would help solve the case."
Gu Xia sighed and continued, "Now all our technical means are ineffective, which makes this case more difficult. Students, please think about what kind of person the murderer might be, or what kind of job he does, or do you have any questions?"
"Professor Gu, the murderer dismembered the victim, so is it possible for the victim to survive?" A student in police uniform raised his hand and asked.
"I know nothing." Gu Xia sighed.
"Professor, if we can determine the tools used by the murderer to dismember the body, can we follow the clues to profile the murderer's occupation, age and psychology?" asked another student in plain clothes.
"This question is very constructive." Gu Xia's eyes lit up and he pondered, "Every criminal who planned to commit a crime has a weapon that he uses on a daily basis. If we analyze the scars on these wound tissues, maybe..."
"No, the victim is still alive!" Just when Gu Xia found some hypothetical clues, a shrill voice suddenly interrupted his thoughts, causing everyone present to frown unconsciously and look around constantly, looking for the person who spoke.
"Who was talking just now?" Gu Xia asked with a frown.
"Professor Gu, I was distracted just now, sorry."
At this time, in an inconspicuous corner, a young man in simple clothes stood up. His skin was extremely fair, and two heavy dark circles were clearly visible on his thin face. But what was different was that his eyes were unusually bright!
"That's that weird guy from the Criminal Investigation Department!"
"Only that weirdo would be so unscrupulous in such a difficult class for Professor Gu, right?"
Seeing the young man standing up, many students present cast strange looks at him. Naturally, many of them spoke in a joking tone, as if they hated him very much.
"Everyone, be quiet." Gu Xia cleared his throat. After the students quieted down, he looked at the young man and asked, " Are you Wang Zheng from the Criminal Investigation Department?"
"Yes, Professor Gu." Wang Zheng smiled bitterly. He didn't expect that he would be so famous.
"What do you mean by what you said just now is wrong?" Gu Xia asked doubtfully.
"We can't identify the murder weapon through scars on human tissue." Wang Zheng said shockingly, ignoring the looks from all around, and continued: "But we can infer the murderer's age and occupation through criminal instinct!"
"What does criminal instinct mean?" Gu Xia asked puzzled.
"Imagine that I am a criminal, or think of myself as a criminal!" Wang Zheng said!
Wow!
The whole audience was in an uproar. No one had expected that Wang Zheng would be so bold as to say such things in public. Everyone thought he was crazy.
"Think of yourself as a criminal..."
Gu Xia was silent for a long time, and finally took a deep breath and said to Wang Zheng: "The point you raised is very constructive. What kind of person do you think the criminal is?"
"A man, about 40 years old, who has been engaged in manual labor for a long time." Wang Zheng paused and continued, "But he is a meat lover, a typical carnivore."
"You mean..." Gu Xia excitedly grasped the corner of the table, "these cans?"
"That's right. He didn't intend to sell the cans. He most likely kept them for his own enjoyment. However, something went wrong at some point, which led to this case coming to light." Wang Zheng said calmly.
"Then how do you know the victim is still alive?" Gu Xia asked even more puzzled.
"Because he's a carnivore." Wang Zheng explained, "Carnivores are much more particular about the freshness of ingredients than omnivores. They don't allow meat to be braided or processed. They prefer the original flavor of meat. And don't you think raising animals is more tempting than slaughtering them all at once?"
"Is this the profile you just wrote?" Gu Xia looked at Wang Zheng in disbelief. As the rumors said, he was indeed a weirdo.
Wang Zheng nodded and fell silent.
Jingle Bell!
When Gu Xia was about to continue speaking, the bell for the end of get out of class rang from the speakers around him. He shook his head helplessly and said to the students who were about to leave: "The case files in this class are worth your research. The scores of the same research results will also be counted into your personal grades. Also, Wang Zheng, please stay for a while."
Hearing Gu Xia's words, all the students were shocked again, but they didn't have time to think about it. Soon all the students left the classroom, leaving only Wang Zheng and Gu Xia.
"Why do people in school call you a weirdo?" Gu Xia said straight to the point.
"Because they can't think of what I think, and they don't agree with what I think." Wang Zheng shrugged indifferently. "It's good this way. When I study the case myself, no one will influence me."
"You are really open-minded." Gu Xia smiled.
There are many rumors about Wang Zheng on campus, but the most well-known one is his aloofness. Even the older Gu Xia knows that Wang Zheng didn't have a single friend in his four years at school. Even his roommates couldn't stand him and eventually went to the school leaders to apply for a dormitory change.
"Okay, let's get back to the point." Gu Xia finally became serious and said, "The authorities attach great importance to the case in this class. A special case team will be set up in the near future. I have a recommendation for you. Are you interested?"
"Me?" Wang Zheng shook his head and declined. "Forget it, Professor Gu. I am not suitable for teamwork. Besides, I have not graduated yet and have no right to conduct case investigation."
"Oh? Don't you want to see more and understand a criminal's thoughts better?" Gu Xia shook the textbook in his hand and tempted: "As far as I know, the topic of your graduation thesis is the theory of criminal deduction. The more cases, the more ideas you can provide!"
"I think I've fallen into your trap ." Wang Zheng said with a wry smile. Just as Gu Xia said, his graduation thesis had reached a bottleneck.
Wang Zheng is already a senior student. If he cannot complete his graduation thesis on time, he will most likely not be able to graduate.
"That's settled then." Gu Xia laughed like an old fox and continued, "Take the flight tomorrow at noon, flying directly to City B. I will pick you up at your dormitory an hour in advance."
"I have one more condition." Wang Zheng was silent for a long time, then said, "I want to bring someone with me."
"Girlfriend?" Gu Xia asked doubtfully. From the information he had obtained, it was impossible for Wang Zheng to be in a relationship, and he couldn't help but sound a little doubtful.
"I guess so. To be more precise, he should be considered my psychiatrist." Wang Zheng paused and continued, "Professor Gu Xia, you know that the method I use to imitate criminals is very easy to get lost. I must follow the psychiatrist, otherwise I cannot guarantee the safety of others."
"It seems like you have tricked me too. Please give me her information." Gu Xia laughed unconsciously, tacitly agreeing to Wang Zheng's request.
Seeing that Gu Xia agreed, Wang Zheng naturally did not hide anything. He quickly took out his wallet and took out a photo from the compartment.
The photo shows a woman in a professional suit. Her slightly longer hair is tied into a cute ponytail. With the black-framed glasses on her nose, she looks mature and generous.
"It turned out to be her!" Gu Xia looked at the woman in the photo and laughed unconsciously, sighing, "If you take her away, I wonder how many male students will curse you behind your back."
"Professor Gu, I didn't expect you to be... so frivolous." Wang Zheng shook his head helplessly, reached out to take the file from Gu Xia's hand, and left the classroom.
