Chapter 0049: Ghost Lantern
I saw that the lantern was very old in style, with a gray surface. It didn't look like it was made of paper or oil paper, but more like some kind of leather. There were some patterns of women playing painted on the upper and lower edges of the lantern.
It flickered in the light of the flame.
The lantern was held by a pair of dry, old hands. The person who opened the door for us was a skinny old man with messy gray hair and a beard. He looked ugly and extremely eerie at night.
Wang Ruoyu and Zhu Xiaomei couldn't help but take a few steps back, gasping, with a look of fear on their faces.
To be honest, the old man's image is indeed quite creepy, especially in this quiet place late at night, holding a broken lantern, it is hard not to be scary.
"Who is Miss Wang?" the old man asked, raising the lantern.
"I...I am." Wang Ruoyu said with some shock.
The old man said "Oh" and led us in.
He introduced himself and said his surname was Sun and everyone called him Old Sun. He had no children and had been looking after the old house for the Wang family for many years.
The old house looked rather dilapidated from the outside, but the rooms inside were quite clean.
Old Sun said that the quilts on the beds were new and asked us not to mind that they were dirty.
Zhu Xiaomei asked him if anyone had lived here before.
Old Sun said, "Yes, on the first and fifteenth day of every month, a young man would come over and sometimes he would rest in the house."
Zhu Xiaomei became excited when she heard this and asked him to explain in detail.
Old Sun pointed to the yard and said that every time the young man came, he would bring a few people with him. They would dig up the ground in the yard, and then the young man would jump into the pit and bury himself halfway. He would stay buried for the whole night and no one knew what he was doing.
Zhu Xiaomei couldn't help shedding tears and asked Old Sun to take her to see where the body was buried.
Old Sun picked up a lantern and took us to a corner of the yard. He shone the light on the ground and said that this was the place where the soil would be filled back after each burial.
I have just taken a rough look at the layout of this old house. If we expand it to the entire yard, this place can also be regarded as the "Five Ghosts Position" in Feng Shui.
I grabbed a handful of soil and touched it. The soil was dark and very moist.
I asked Old Sun if the young man had been here this month.
Old Sun nodded and said, "Yes, I came here this afternoon."
Zhu Xiaomei and Wang Ruoyu exclaimed .
"You meant my brother...that young man who came here this afternoon?" Zhu Xiaomei asked with her eyes wide open.
Old Sun said, "That's right. They came here in the afternoon and started digging in the yard. I was surprised because they always came at night before."
I saw Zhu Xiaomei and Wang Ruo and the two women were stunned with astonishment , so I asked, "Grandpa, did you see that young man with your own eyes?"
Old Sun shook his head and said, "No, but the young man always came with me. I like to sleep during the day, and when I saw them digging in the yard, they went back to the house. When I got up, they were gone."
Wang Ruoyu asked doubtfully: "Why are they digging a pit here? It's obviously Zhu..."
Having said that, he glanced at Zhu Xiaomei and didn't say anything else, but his meaning was very clear. Zhu Shouwen was already dead, so why were they still digging here?
Zhu Xiaomei bit her lip and asked Old Sun if he had a shovel or hoe. She planned to dig up the place and have a look.
Wang Ruoyu also became curious and was eager to try it.
I stopped them and said, "It's so late, let's talk about it tomorrow."
Afterwards, we asked Old Sun to go back to the house and rest, and said that the three of us could handle it ourselves.
After Old Sun left, Wang Ruoyu asked me impatiently, "Don't you think this is strange? Why do you have to wait until tomorrow?"
I nodded and said, "It's quite strange, so we can't dig it now. "
"Why?" Zhu Xiaomei asked puzzledly.
"Because..." I glanced at her, feeling a little reluctant, "There's a good chance your brother is buried in there."
The two women exclaimed at the same time.
"What nonsense are you talking about? Zhu Shouming has obviously been cremated!" Wang Ruoyu said angrily.
Zhu Xiaomei looked nervous, "Is my brother really buried in there?"
I pointed to the corner of the yard and said, "Before I came here, I was just guessing, but after getting here, I'm basically sure."
"The reason why the Wang family hurriedly took your brother's body away from Chunshanju was not to cremate him, but to transport him here."
"Old Sun said he saw them digging a hole here this afternoon, and he thought it was the same as before, but he didn't expect that this time they came to dig a hole to bury your brother's body."
"This is ridiculous!" Wang Ruoyu was furious. "Why did our family bury Zhu Shouwen here?"
I smiled and said, "What else can we do? Of course, it's to attract wealth. Your family's business was not doing well in the past few years and you were in debt. That fat guy surnamed Wu gave your family an idea."
"That's why your Wang family later recruited a live-in son-in-law. Sister-in-law, think about it, is it after you married Brother Shouwen that the Wang family suddenly turned around?"
"In the past few years, your Wang family has been prosperous and wealthy, but you never expected that Brother Shouwen would suddenly pass away. This is equivalent to breaking your Wang family's fortune."
"So the fat guy surnamed Wu immediately came up with a remedy idea. He buried Brother Shou Wen's body in the Five Ghosts position of your Wang family's old house. This way, you can continue to maintain your wealth."
After hearing this, Wang Ruoyu sneered, "Don't play tricks on me! There is no such thing in the world. Our Wang family earned all our money by ourselves. How can we make money just by getting married to me?"
I didn't argue with her, but Zhu Xiaomei believed what I said and hurriedly went to find tools to dig the person out.
"It's too late now. We have to wait until the sun comes out tomorrow before we can start construction." I stopped her.
Zhu Xiaomei was extremely anxious and asked why she couldn't move.
"It's past nine o'clock, and the Yin energy is too strong. Something might happen to your brother's body." I explained.
Zhu Xiaomei was stunned by what I said, but Wang Ruoyu said sarcastically, "You are just talking nonsense, what kind of accident can happen?"
I didn't respond to her, looked at the sky and said, "How about we go back first?"
Zhu Xiaomei refused to leave. She was afraid that the Wang family would secretly come and dig up her brother's body, so she wanted to stay and keep watch.
Wang Ruoyu was furious when he heard this: "Who do you think my Wang family is? I don't believe Zhu Shouwen is buried down there!" He glared at me fiercely and said, "You'll be in trouble tomorrow!"
So she decided to stay too, and wait till tomorrow morning to dig the ground and hit me in the face.
I don't care where I live. There are two ready-made rooms here. Wang Ruoyu and Zhu Xiaomei live in one, and I live in the room next door.
The room has a very old-fashioned design and a sense of age. There is a wooden bed against the wall, as well as a coffee table and a few benches.
I yawned and felt very tired, so I lay on the bed and took a nap for a while.
I don't know how long it was before I was awakened by a series of knocks on the door.
