Chapter 001 Sleepwalking
I recently started dating a girlfriend who is the same age as me. She is average looking except that her skin is fair. She is a colleague of mine in my current company. When she first came to apply for the job, I felt that she looked familiar and I seemed to have seen her somewhere before. Maybe it was a natural attraction. She was assigned to another department, and I happened to go on a business trip with her. We got to know each other a few times. Later, I hinted at her and she agreed immediately, and we became boyfriend and girlfriend.
As time went by, I discovered that she had a very strange habit.
Although we work in the same company, we are in different departments. We rarely have direct contact during the weekdays and can only get together on weekends. Moreover, she rarely sends messages at night. Only after midnight, the amount of messages suddenly increases and she starts to stick to me.
I have my own biological clock. After midnight, I have trouble falling asleep. I toss and turn but can't fall asleep. But in order to accommodate her, I rarely go to bed before midnight these days. I can only accompany her to chat.
I found that at midnight, her mind was extremely active, and she often posted some provocative selfies. I tolerated it because of these selfies.
Sometimes we would chat until 3 or 4 in the middle of the night. I would fall asleep groggy and go to work the next day in a daze, feeling exhausted all day. Last week, it was even more outrageous. At 1 in the middle of the night, she actually asked me to go for a walk. I was drowsy at first, but I immediately became energetic. I am not a straight man. Is a walk just a walk? It is just a metaphorical hint of an indescribable behavior.
I am from another city and rent a house here, while she is from here and lives in a big house. I have imagined that if we really have a good relationship, I can move in with her. But there is one thing I am very puzzled about, why doesn't she live with her parents, and I have never heard her mention her parents.
I went there in a hurry that night , but who knew it was really a walk. She dragged me along the deserted streets, looking very happy. I tried to have some contact with her several times, but she evaded me skillfully. I was so depressed and felt cheated. But I still liked her in my heart, so I walked with her for most of the night until we arrived at the gate of her community. She pointed to the seventh floor of a building inside and said, "That's my home."
I was a little confused. Why was the light still on in that window? I wondered if there was someone else at home. But I didn't say it out loud.
"Wang Yue, it's so late, why don't I stay at your place for the night?" I said sincerely, "Don't worry, I 'll sleep on the sofa and I promise to behave myself."
She stared at her feet and slowly said no, it was a bit inconvenient at home, and she would invite me later.
My face turned green at that moment. I forced a smile and said it was okay, but in my heart I had already blacklisted her.
From that day on, when she wanted to chat with me at night, I said I was sleepy and postponed it if possible. Sometimes she sent me messages, but I didn't reply to them. I hoped that she would take the initiative to break up and end this relationship. I hoped that my negative attitude would make her understand.
I don’t know if she really thought it through or what, but she gradually stopped contacting me. Although we didn’t explicitly state that the relationship was over, we were adults and should have known it.
That night, the head of the department called me and asked me to find Wang Yue. The company would have a major negotiation the next day. Wang Yue was responsible for sorting out the negotiation data, and there was a key piece of information that needed to be changed overnight. Her leader had called, but no one answered her phone, and no one responded to her messages. She was very anxious. There was really no other way, so she thought of me in a roundabout way and asked the head of our department to call me.
"Lin Cong, I don't care what method you use, you have to find Wang Yue tonight even if you have to dig three feet deep in the ground. Do you understand?" The boss spoke very quickly on the phone, and it could be felt that the situation was extremely urgent.
I smiled bitterly: "Boss, why are you looking for me? Doesn't Wang Yue have a best friend in the company?"
"Don't talk nonsense. The whole company knows that you two are a couple. Don't talk nonsense to me. How dare you say that you haven't been to her house? I'm afraid you're the only one in the company who knows where her house is." The boss didn't allow me to explain. He immediately said, "I don't care about what happens between you two. I want you to find Wang Yue tonight. If you find her, let me know immediately!"
I put down the phone and looked at the clock. It was already ten o'clock in the evening. It was early spring now, and it was still very cold and windy at night. How could I have been assigned such an unfortunate job?
I am not worried at all about Wang Yue's loss of contact. I'm used to it when we were dating. She is always elusive. Only she can find me, and it is almost impossible for me to find her.
I didn't rush out, I called her first, and sure enough, no one answered. I sent her a message, but after waiting for ten minutes, there was no response. I got dressed and went out reluctantly.
According to my memory, I took a taxi to the gate of her community. It was already late at night and it was pitch black inside.
I was shivering with cold and called again, but no one answered after several empty calls. Standing outside the community, I squinted my eyes and recalled the direction she had pointed out. I barely counted the tall buildings in the dark and finally counted that building. She told me that her home was on the seventh floor. I looked over carefully and was stunned. The lights were on in the house on the seventh floor.
For some reason, my heart skipped a beat, and I had a vague sense of foreboding. The last time I went out with her, the lights were on in her house, and they were still on this time. I couldn't explain the meaning of this.
As I was hesitating, my cell phone rang. I looked down and saw it was from my boss, asking me if I had found Wang Yue.
I was so confused that I told him to go to her house right away. I had no choice but to go ahead. I entered the community and walked towards the building in the dark. There were some dim street lights in the community. There were not many people at night. I could see the faint gardens, pavilions and flowing water around. The greenery was very beautiful.
As I was walking, suddenly a figure came towards me. He was walking straight, on tiptoe, and in a light and wobbly manner, with an extremely strange posture.
It was late at night and I was not mentally prepared at all. When I suddenly saw such a person, the hair on the back of my neck stood up.
After taking a closer look, I couldn't believe my eyes. It was Wang Yue!
She was wearing a thin blue dress that looked a bit like a costume, with long hair and a pale face. The weirdest thing was that she closed her eyes and seemed to be walking while sleeping. I was almost pissing myself.
As I was stunned, she staggered closer to me. My heart was pounding, and my whole body seemed to be frozen in place, not daring to move.
Strangely, she ignored me, walked past me and continued walking.
Sleepwalking?! My throat moved, and this was the first thought that popped into my mind. Sleepwalking is not new, but this is the first sleepwalker I have ever met. It would be a lie to say I am not scared, goose bumps all over my body.
Wang Yue walked very fast and disappeared behind the garden. There were many bamboos planted here, and the leaves were lush. There was no light at night, so she soon disappeared. This was a bit weird, but I couldn't ignore it, so I had to bite the bullet and follow.
After walking around the garden, I saw her back. She actually turned and took the side road to the bridge.
I scratched my head, thinking that it was really strange that a sleepwalker could recognize the road as if he could see. Today I was finally enlightened.
Tracking a sleepwalker late at night, I was nervous and excited. I thought to myself, no wonder Wang Yue looked so strange and always came to chat with me in the middle of the night. It seemed that there was a reason. I subconsciously felt that a person who could sleepwalk might not be mentally normal. I was silently thankful that I broke up with her early. If it had been delayed for a long time, she would really go crazy and who knows what she would do.
I followed her onto the bridge and followed silently from behind. We were not far apart, and she didn't seem to notice and kept walking on her own. After following for a while, I felt more and more strange. I had a strong feeling that she seemed to be going on a date.
As she walked, she came to a pavilion in the southeast corner of the community. There was a stone table and four stone benches around it. It should be a place for the elderly in the community to rest.
Wang Yue entered the pavilion and sat on a stone bench. The light was extremely dim and the atmosphere was somewhat eerie. I didn't dare to go in, so I watched from behind. She was talking to an empty stone bench opposite. She was talking very passionately, with a changing expression, sometimes serious and sometimes laughing.
I was peeping in the dark and my legs were shaking so much.
After watching for a while, I couldn't help wondering what she was talking about. I walked over slowly and eavesdropped outside the pavilion. Her voice was very loud, and she said to the non-existent person on the empty stool: "Lao Meng, don't waste time. I agree to all your conditions. This is the agreement."
The other party seemed to be in deep thought. After a while, Wang Yue said again: "I, Lin Cong, will never go back on my promise, so you can rest assured."
I couldn't believe my ears. She actually mentioned my name, Lin Cong. She even called herself Lin Cong!
After saying this, she touched her body and seemed to take out a pen, then took something from an empty stool, looked at the air solemnly, and then signed her name on it with an invisible pen. I don't know if it was because of preconceived ideas, but to me the strokes of the name seemed to look like the two words "Lin Cong".
